The new sleeve is a tiny bit larger than original in circumference, but will shrink from outside weather elements and fit tight wiring within few years of driving. Purchase from me and save money hassle what i'm selling is a true Ford Mercury factory license plate light with all number letter stamping.
USA manufactured if you happen to find a nos license plate light, expect pay close 300. Also having a new soft grommet means not to worry about water getting into the trunk area from 48-year-old brittle with excess wear tear on it. A new wire sleeve means not having to deal with 48-year-old brittle that can break off and expose the weather moisture.
The wiring is brand new and includes a wire sleeve grommet. USA manufactured grommet: brand new factory looking wire grommet. The hanging screws are new factory correct black phosphate plated and were one of three different designs that varies Ford Mercury factories used throughout country. This is a very nice restored lamp and will look great in concourse restorations or for someone who enjoys having Ford Mercury factory original parts.
Having a new wire assembly means not to worry about conductivity problems that 50-year-old wires cause from copper corrosion oxidation and brittle vinyl insulation can break the light stop working. The only difference from my light is that wire assembly brand new.
And remember that factory nos lights are just second hand with late date codes not the original assembly line. Worth the investment for your beloved Cougar. Finally included are 2 new factory correct hanging screws. The new grommet is a bit larger than original, so it might still fit into original trunks hole or just tiny with dreamily sanding drum drill.
Anyone can paint a light, but plating brings the light to whole another level. USA manufactured wire sleeve: brand new factory looking sleeve.
USA manufactured gasket: brand new. Don't settle for foreign reproductions, keep your Cougar real with factory Ford Mercury parts.
The oem glass lens appeared to be in great shape, and I included a new gasket nos GE-97 bulb. Mostly the license plate lights that come up for sale are just Ford galaxies maverick service parts and different from Cougar light in design.
Other hanging screws that the factories used were zinc dichromate Phillips and hexagonal on years for mustangs Cougars.
